The HubICL's Newest Addition: The Professional Development Zone

As we leave 2021 behind and welcome in 2022, the CILMAR staff are excited to let you know about the latest addition to the HubICL: the Professional Development Zone (PDZ).

Many of you know the Intercultural Learning Hub (HubICL) as the one-stop for finding intercultural learning activities, assessments, and publications. Now you'll also be able to search the HubICL Professional Development Zone (PDZ) database to find professional development opportunities--some at no cost to users, others for a fee--for intercultural learning practitioners.

Because we are again partnering with HUBzero® to build this new addition to the HubICL, you will find the search interface to feel similar to the other areas of the HubICL, but with a more block-shaped design added in to emphasize that each PDZ module should be viewed as only one block in a lifelong pursuit of constructing intercultural competence.

As you might expect, you'll be able to search for PDZ offerings by various search parameters, including duration, type, level, and prerequisites. Below is an image of some of the offerings now being offered through the HubICL PDZ from CoreCollaborative International, Global Inclusion, ICQ Global, True North Intercultural, Purdue’s CILMAR and IDA+A, and several others who facilitated intercultural learning workshops during the 2021 Step Up Zone series of tiered workshops.

In this first phase of the PDZ, users can save search results by "hearting" the blocks they are interested in. In the second phase, coming later in 2022, users will be able to choose to make their search go wider--more blocks at a specified level--or deeper--blocks on the same subject with more in depth course materials.

If you are a facilitator of intercultural learning, we welcome you to fill out the attached and return it to cilmar@purdue.edu in order to have your module, workshop, webinar, or conference included in the PDZ. There is no charge to be included.

We welcome anyone with a HubICL account to try out the functionality of the PDZ and let us know what you think at cilmar@purdue.edu.

All the best in 2022,

Annette Benson
