I have used this tool, Beach Ball Buzz, with undergraduate students and also with young children in elementary school. It works equally well with a wide range of students!  The pros of this tool is that it structures equal participation for everyone (if you set that expectation), it's tactile so takes the focus off of shyer students by giving them something to do with their hands, and it can be used and reused many times by swapping out questions for different purposes (e.g. ice breaker, getting-to-know-you, quick review, finding similarities or differences among peers).  The cons are simply figuring out how you won't ruin your beach ball by writing on it in permanent marker with questions you want to replace later. I suggest writing a 'key' with questions on the board and numbering your beach ball so it can be reused again and again. I especially appreciated the different question prompts offered by this resource to inspire different ways it could be used with students. If you work with future educators like I do, the additional advantage can be modeling hands-on activities to use with children, while inviting team building among the group. I used this tool a couple of different ways: initially sharing getting-to-know-you questions in the first week of class, but later modeling literacy teaching strategies like having letters on the ball and having students produce the sound, or reading the sight word they land on.  I recommend this activity for use in groups if you need something quick and engaging.
