The original activity did not include a debrief, but we recommend that facilitators include debriefing questions to engage participants in dialogue after the activity. One option is to do a Thiagi debrief (Thiagarajan et al., 2015).
Thiagarajan, T., Tagliati T., Richter M. S., & Thiagarajan, R. (2015). Six questions to ask during debriefing. In Interactive techniques for instructor-led training (pp. 252-253). The Thiagi Group.
Other debriefing question options include:
- What do you notice about your first impressions of one another?
- How did the discussion make you feel?
- Why do we make first impressions?
- What are the impacts of first impressions on the person “making the impression” and on the person “observing?”
- What do you take away from this activity? How might you bring this into future situations?
Facilitators may want to use the Tool First Impressions Video in conjunction with this activity.
