This project aims to increase enrollment of students persistently underrepresented in study abroad programs, specifically URM students and first-generation students, through a model for outreach and recruitment in Honors College.

Drawing from previous research on barriers to study abroad participation, the model centers targeted engagement with underrepresented students by two peer Intercultural Ambassadors trained to help them navigate those barriers. They will be equipped, for example, to share information, point students toward resources, and assist prospective students in communicating with parents about study abroad. The model also looks beyond the recruitment process by proposing interventions with faculty, staff, and others who can support and encourage underrepresented students in study abroad participation. This model will be launched at the start of the 2021-2022 academic year and assessed and amended as needed over the next several years.
