This white paper summarizes major findings of an in-progress study analyzing learning outcomes of two types of mentoring during semester-long study abroad, as compared to a control group (which received no mentoring while abroad).

The intercultural development inventory (IDI) was used with a total of 376 undergraduate participants. The control group, of 52 students, studied abroad for a semester without receiving mentoring, while two mentoring treatments (individualized and group) where put into place for the experimental population. ANOVA and Tukey analysis methods were used to determine statistical significance of the differences between the three groups; as was a comparison of rates of progression into a new stage, or stasis, or regression to an earlier stage.
