From the LSA Inclusive Teaching Initiative, University of Michigan: "When used in conjunction with the Social Identity Wheel, the Personal Identity Wheel can be further interrogated to consider how students’ personal identities are or aren’t informed by their social identities." This activity can also be used in conjunction with the Spectrum Activity.

Facilitators may choose to use any of the activities provided in this tool. All activity options encourage participants to consider the many identities with which they identify. Some activities provide identity categories (i.e., Personal Identity Wheel and Social Identity Wheel), while others allow participants to choose their own identities unprompted (i.e., Identity Beads, Identity Molecule, The Paseo [Circles of Identity], Circles of My Multicultural Self, Identity Circles).

The modified version of this activity was submitted by Dr. John Sheffield, Purdue Polytechnic Institute in fulfillment of the requirements of the Intercultural Pedagogy Grant program.
