Several years ago, I read Crucial Conversations by Kerry Patterson at a time when I needed to have a crucial conversation or two. Around that same time, I received an e-mail (from one of the people that I needed to have the crucial conversation with) which seemed to scream a certain message at me. In my mind I thought it used a hurtful phrase several times. Just for kicks, I put it in a word cloud generator to see what the e-mail would look like pictorially. Much to my surprise, the phrase which I found hurtful was not large or in the center. The thing I was focusing in on--and totally missing the whole point in the process--was small and out on the edge of the word cloud.
