What's New in the PDZ, the Collections, and the Events for Fall 2023
Welcome to the HubICL Hubbub, the newsletter that offers you the latest buzz on all that’s happening in the Hub!
New PDZ blocks
If you haven’t been to the PDZ in a while, you’ll want to take a look at the latest blocks of intercultural learning (ICL) offered there. Created as self-learning modules by the Purdue CILMAR staff, the PDZ blocks offer train-the-trainer content for experienced and novice ICL professionals. Both of the following were created by Aparajita Jaiswal, PhD, Intercultural Research Specialist, Purdue University’s CILMAR:
RECOGNIZING AND ADDRESSING MICROAGGRESSION
https://hubicl.org/pdz/block/92
This self-learning module discusses the concept and types of microaggression such as microassaults, microinsults, microinvalidations, and environmental microaggressions, along with strategies for responding.
DO WE LIVE IN A FAIR AND EQUITABLE SOCIETY? AN INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL JUSTICE
https://hubicl.org/pdz/block/94
This self-learning module provides space for reflection on the concept and need for social justice, forms of social challenges—systemic racism, gender discrimination, environmental injustice, and disability justice—as well as strategies to mitigate such social challenges.
You’ll want to share the content with others after finishing it yourself!
New HubICL Collection
Back in 2021, several Purdue staff members—Kris Acheson-Clair, Lan Jin, Aletha Stahl, and Katherine Yngve—had the opportunity to serve as guest editors for a special edition of Frontiers: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Study Abroad. We have pulled from the vault a series of short YouTube videos of the various authors of articles from the Frontiers special edition talking about their research. Kelsey Patton, CILMAR’s newest intercultural learning specialist, has now created a HubICL Collection at https://hubicl.org/members/1349/collections/forum-2021-special-issue-on-assessment-as-pedagogy-in-education-abroad--author-interviews. From there you can also find the Forum 2021 playlist on YouTube.
