The activities and assessments in this collection support the development of knowledge of cultural worldview frameworks. 

These resources are collected specifically for faculty at East Carolina University as part of a QEP designed to build intercultural learning into the on-campus curriculum. They may be useful for other institutions of higher ed as well.

In her 2018 book, White fragility: Why it's so hard for white people to talk about racism, Robin DiAngelo identifies why white people often have negative reactions (anger, fear, guilt, etc.) when asked to challenge their assumptions about race and points out how these negative reactions perpetuate racial injustice. Her arguments have been both lauded -- Ibram X. Kendi recommends it for white readers on his anti-racist reading list -- and criticized. This collection brings together the book and several perspectives on it in hopes of stimulating productive reflection around antiracism. 

This collection includes slides, readings, and activities from an 8-week opportunity for faculty and instructors from the School of Languages and Cultures to explore the field of intercultural learning in relation to the field of language teaching and learning.

Learning outcomes for participants:

1. Recognize several theoretical frameworks for understanding intercultural learning and identify general issues of inquiry in this area.
2. Articulate connections between language acquisition and intercultural learning.
3. Align teaching tools, assessment methods, and classroom strategies with particular frameworks of intercultural learning.
4. Integrate at least one new intercultural learning outcome and its assessment into a course through backward design.
