Activity created by Dr. Lindsey Macdonald and Annette Benson, CILMAR, Purdue University, based on the following:
Gross, R. (Host). (2015, Sept. 10). Coming out meatless. In Gravy. Southern Foodways Alliance. https://www.southernfoodways.org/gravy/coming-out-meatless-gravy-ep-21/
LSA Inclusive Teaching Initiative, University of Michigan. (2017, August 16). Social identity wheel. https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/inclusive-teaching/sample-activities/social-identity-wheel/
Runyan, A.S. (2018). What is intersectionality and why is it important? Academe. American Association of University Professors. https://www.aaup.org/article/what-intersectionality-and-why-it-important#.Y1_4f3bMI2z

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to: 1. Define intersectionality and recognize why it's an important concept to understand. 2. Discuss how intersecting or overlapping identities can lead to internal and/or familial conflict as well as discrimination and disadvantage. 3. Recognize the role of context and circumstances in construction and enactment of their own identities. 4. Articulate the ways in which identity shifts and is perceived across contexts.
