This activity does the important work of exploring the nature of empathy. By examining how empathy can be employed for both good and bad outcomes, it forces us to examine how we use empathy and question whether that is appropriate. This is a good way for participants to examine their own tribes, biases, and applications of empathy. This in turn will help them to better apply empathy appropriately.

This is a helpful tool for reminding people that empathy in and of itself is not necessarily an end. It could be useful in the debrief to bring in questions of power and how power inequalities and empathy play together.
