This is a general, ubiquitous assignment/teaching strategy. 

Ask students to write for one minute on one to three direct questions at the beginning, middle, or end of a session. Variations include asking students to draw a picture or diagram in response to the questions or allowing students to respond using a bulleted list or concept map.

This assessments provides quick feedback to the facilitator and allows participants to discuss any questions they have as a result of the activity or what they did not understand.
