Facilitators may choose to optionally incorporate a video about how beauty brand owner Unilever decided to drop the word "normal" from their products' packaging (see Links). A viewing of this video would lead to a discussion about the ways in which beauty products—which are often marketed as items for self-care—can be exclusionary. Some potential discussion questions:

  • What does having the word "normal" on a beauty or self-care product suggest? 
  • What might be the effect of removing this word? 
  • In the video, Unilever acknowledges that removing "normal" won't solve all the issues behind the marketing of beauty or self-care products. What else could they, and other companies, do to make their products more inclusive?
