This course, LC 490: Introduction to Intercultural Learning and Teaching, was created by Dr. Aletha Stahl, CILMAR, Purdue University.

This syllabus for a 1-credit course offered through The School of Languages and Cultures was designed for both students who enrolled for credit and for language instructors who joined out of professional interest. Weekly meetings alternated between a focus on theoretical texts and on pedagogical tools and facilitation strategies. I used the AAC&U Intercultural Knowledge and Competence VALUE Rubric to determine the skills, attitudes, and knowledge on which to focus. As instructor and designer of this course, I, for future iterations, would replace some readings from the The SAGE Encyclopedia of Intercultural Competence with scholarly articles or other materials that address similar topics. If the course were expanded, I would explore each topic more thoroughly, offer more facilitation opportunities, and bring in more perspectives on the idea of "intercultural," e.g., intercultural intelligence, intercultural humility, etc.
