Hardly anyone (without a Ph.D.) will challenge the notion that a science or accounting major learns differently from a dance or literature major. In other words, assessing & talking about learning style differences is one of the least threatening ways to get students in denial or polarization to begin to engage with cultural difference, without pushback.  I find the on-line Kolb (version 4.0) to be an excellent tool to teach teamwork, since it addresses 9 learning styles and the individual report gives good, formative feedback; focusing how each needs to think about working with others for team success. I often supplement this by talking about your typical superhero movie, in which each member of the team has a different superpower specialty.  Practitioners who have to persuade academics of the validity (etc.) of Kolb's research will probably also want to purchase the facilitator manual.
