The Big Five-2 is based on decades of psychology research into personality traits. Although not positioned by the authors as an "intercultural competence" instrument, three of its sub-scales (openness, extraversion & agreeability) have been show in other validated tools to map onto the practice of effectiveness across difference.
The instrument has been repeatedly validated as measuring personality tendencies that are both stable and predictive; this suggests that it may be best used as a low-cost, low-stakes formative tool and for facilitating discussions of personality norms as a facet of culture.
There are a number of available versions but Koerth-Baker and Wolfe is the most easily accessible, and produces a supportive and nuanced report. The online version (Links) allows group comparison and sharing.
