Though the {THE AND} “On Racism” edition was designed to be discussed in pairs, like other editions, I have been conducting weekly hour-long discussions with my team of professional staff, which means there are up to 12 people in any discussion. We have held discussions in-person, as well as virtually when necessary. There are two elements about the edition that I really appreciate. First, there are some themes that run throughout the cards, so if you draw them in order, you can dig deep into how something (ex. family) has influenced your perceptions of race and racism. Secondly, I appreciate that the cards address intersectionality. There are many questions that discuss the intersections of race and gender, race and socioeconomic status, race and sexual orientation, race and race (bi-racial or multi-racial), etc. This focus on intersectionality has allowed for much deeper discussions and learning.

We have used {THE AND} “On Racism" during Anti-Racism discussions since I started my position in July. Each week I look forward to the thought-provoking questions that make it easy to talk about race, racism, and intersectional identities. Despite being "on racism" the prompts allow you to talk about race and racism in ways that seem to be almost adjacent, steering the conversations to cover a wide range of topics but ultimately giving way to conversations about racism and it's impacts.
