This activity tends to provoke laughter and some frustration. The instructions assume that participants will identify more with the Americans because it is not suggested that they need to be briefed on their behavior. Although the Americans are identified and clearly stereotyped, both the name and cultural behaviors assigned to the Sharahadans play on problematic Orientalist stereotypes. 

Another tool, "Journey to Gizmoland," is a modified version of this activity that addresses these issues. It was adapted to remove explicit and easily inferred national and ethnic references, to simplify it a bit, and to add debriefing questions.
